Sunshine Coast book loving events in April 2016 April 8, 2016 – Posted in: Local Authors Sunshine Coast
What events do you enjoy and why….
People tell me daily what a lovely space the bookshop and the courtyard are. It is regularly commented to me about the suitability of the space for events. Events and bookshops seem to go hand in hand. The ideas for events include author talks on their subject of interest, workshops on writing, craft, business, food tastings and many so many other topics.
I love events as they offer a wonderful connection to the community. It is a great way to meet like-minded people and get to know other locals with your same passion.
To make continuing events a success, we need you. We need to know what you’d like to see and hear? What event will you love to get involved in.? What would you like to get out of an event? What day and time do you find events most worthwhile? How do you want to hear about events?
This April 2016 really is a month for events at Books of Buderim
We have already have had two fantastic ones over the school holidays.
4 authors (Gregg Dreise, Peter Rowe, Maryanne O’Flynn and Judy Paulson) came to the book shop doing story readings and activities for primary school children.
The other event was Lynette Noni doing a 2-hour writing workshop for high school students.
Both events provided that wonderful connection of the community to the author. What is written in a book can come alive through discussing and hearing how an author interprets the story. It brings the story to life like film or TV. Except the special part of the author visit is that you can delve deeper into the thought process of the author in a way that TV, Twitter and Facebook could only dream about.
We have two Free events coming up:
Friday APRIL 15th at 6.30pm

Author Allison Paterson is introducing her new title Granny’s Place.
Allison Paterson is a local teacher librarian and author of Anzac Sons: Five Brothers on the Western Front and the adult version Anzac Sons: Five Brothers in the War to End All Wars, true accounts of the service of her grandfather and his brothers on the Western Front.
Granny’s Place, while a fictional story for children, is based on the author’s childhood memories of her much-loved grandparents, the joy of the family gatherings on their small farm in central Victoria and her own reflections on the changes that life brings.
As this is the Saturday before Anzac Day, a reflection on Anzac memories as well and old fashioned values will be very timely. Allison’s books are enjoyed in schools nationally and they are will form part of the treasures you hand down through the generations. It these times of turmoil, it is so worthwhile to remember the past and reflect on how we can bring about a better future.
