The title for this book is superbly apt! There is so much aching in this beautifully written Australian novel. Annie aches for her old life on the mountain – before the bushfires – she aches for her much loved grandmother, Gladys, killed on that tragic day. Annie aches for her Daughter Pip and husband tom and the confirmed life they live in the city. For the times spent with her Uncle Len a vet on the mountain and the reason Annie became a vet: for her old love Alex and what they shared and for her mum Susan who was only 15 when Annie was born.

Ache is a simply worded and described true novel of Australian life with some fabulously interesting characters. It will make you the reader really ache for Annie, her family and friends. A great read.
