Relax, we have your local event covered June 13, 2017 – Posted in: Blog – Tags:

Are you looking for a place to feel at home and relax with friends? Do you sometimes just need somewhere to go that has chairs and tables and a bit of sun? Buderim is a lovely location, in the heart of the Sunshine Coast. It has clothing shops, fabulous chemist, newsagent, other shops, many coffee houses and of course the book shop. But is can be difficult to find somewhere to sit if you don’t want to be constrained with a food or drink purchase.

I have the perfect place, our covered courtyard at the bookshop. I like to think of it as a public space that everyone is welcome to enjoy and make themselves comfortable in. So long as people can still walk into the bookshop I am very happy to have groups, singles, couples or whoever would like to use the space. Happy people offer happy vibes that make for a very pleasant courtyard.

Recently I have had a wonderful event with Inga Simpson, Award recognised author in the courtyard and I realised what a large space it can be. It would be ideal for group gatherings. If I know in advance we can confirm we are not double booked. The space can be used for book club gatherings, craft get together’s and many other uses. I don’t have coffee or tea, or food although I can organise these things for a small price, but your also welcome to bring anything along with you, coffee or tea from local coffee shop and a picnic lunch. There are many tables in the courtyard to be setup for use as a display table. It is only limited by your imagination.

With the many local authors on the coast and their most amazing stories, we offer a chance to chat with them. These local authors have published significant books and are a wealth of information. They are also extremely entertaining and offer wonderful conversation. The courtyard is a space they enjoy coming and meeting other locals to talk about their books and life in general. Look out for when they are in the courtyard and come along and meet some of our local personalities. Ask your own questions, find out what makes they passionate about the story at hand and enjoy meeting your community.

This month we have the following authors in courtyard:

15 June 2017 at 10.00am

Roger Wood discussing his new book: George Overton Intervenes

13 July 2017 at 10.00am

Wal Walker with his new book Jane and D’Arcy- Such Talent and such success in time for the 200-year anniversary of Jane Austen

And on every 2nd Wednesday we have a local artist, Gary the Shark painting artist. Gary painting canvases, tshirts, cards and enjoys talking to locals about his passions sharks and police. Gary also has a fabulous trike that is a bit of a legend in its own seat in Buderim. If you haven’t seen Gary riding around the streets in his trike, you must not have driven around Buderim.

Books of Buderim is a local COMMUNITY bookshop and my aim is to bring the community together. Be a part of the community that loves the sun, surf and the relaxed culture that we are famous for.
